There is nothing more refreshing when traveling then to step foot off a plane, out of a taxi, van or bus, etc. and be welcomed with a “Welcome Drink“. Whether its a cold young coconut in Bali, Indonesia or Mexico aka “Coco Frio”, or its a fresh juice at your luxury hotel in Costa Rica a welcome drink is one of the best things you can offer me once I arrive somewhere and I have been traveling for a bit. Well that and a nice hot or cold face cloth depending on the temperature and climate.
While in South Africa we flew an hour into the bush from Johannesburg to spend 3 nights at the And Beyond Ngala Game Reserve and as we pulled up at the lodge for the first time and every time for the next three days we were welcomed with some tasty welcome drinks. A delicious fruit juice, lemonade or pimms served and waiting just for us.
Whether we were welcomed into the welcoming arms of “Mama” or by the warm smile of Given one of the greatest people at the lodge, that mixed with the welcome drink made our stay “that” much better and almost gave it that touch of home that you often miss when traveling. Just the idea that someone is thinking and planning things for you while you are gone gives you that warm fuzzy feeling all over.
Have you ever been greeted by a welcome drink? Where and what was your favorite?
